Dr. Stephen Unterberg is a board-certified general urologist with a specialized focus on complex voiding dysfunction, male and female urinary incontinence, urinary tract reconstruction, and neuro-urology. He earned his undergraduate degree in Neuropsychiatry from the University of Pennsylvania and his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. He completed his urology residency at UC San Diego and subsequently completed a fellowship in Female Urology at University College Hospital in London, in association with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

Dr. Unterberg treats patients with a broad range of urologic conditions, with particular expertise in complex bladder and voiding dysfunction. His clinical interests include overactive bladder, urinary retention, urinary incontinence, vaginal prolapse, neurogenic bladder, and other challenging lower urinary tract disorders. He has been designated a Center of Excellence (COE) for Axonics Sacral Neuromodulation, which is used to treat conditions including overactive bladder, fecal incontinence, and non-obstructive urinary retention.

Dr. Unterberg also specializes in minimally invasive treatment options for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). He has been designated a Center of Excellence (COE) for UroLift, an office-based procedure designed to improve urinary symptoms caused by an enlarged prostate.
