Dr. Stefan J. Chin obtained his medical degree from Columbia University in New York City in 1993. Afterward, he stayed in New York and completed his Internal Medicine residency at Columbia University Medical Center in 1996. Moving to California, he completed his fellowship training in Gastroenterology at Stanford University Medical Center in 1999. Dr.Chin has been in private practice as a member of the Bay Area Digestive Health Medical Group since 1999.

Dr. Chin serves as the current Section Chief of Gastroenterology at Seton Medical Center in Daly City, CA, and is a founding partner of the Digestive Diagnostic Center. His areas of interest include biliary tract and pancreatic disease, colon cancer screening, gastroesophageal reflux disease, and liver disease. He is skilled in procedures such as upper endoscopy, colonoscopy, ERCP, pH testing, small bowel capsule endoscopy, and nonsurgical internal hemorrhoidal banding.

Personal Interests

When he is not working in the medical field, Dr. Chin with his wife founded a not-for-profit Reggio Emilia-inspired Mandarin language preschool in 2008. It has since expanded to a progressive Mandarin immersion elementary school (K-8) in San Francisco, educating more than 220 children (2014-2015 school year). Dr. Chin enjoys cooking, dining out, skiing, and, most importantly, spending time with his wife and two young children.
