Dr. Yan was born in Shanghai, China. He has been providing urologic services to patients for over 13 years and is the former Chief of Urology at the Summit Campus of Alta Bates Summit Medical Center in Oakland. He is Board Certified in adult and pediatric urology. Dr. Yan’s practice encompasses all facets of urology. He evaluates and manages a variety of urinary and sexual problems including kidney stones, urinary incontinence, erectile dysfunction, and various urological cancers.
He has been providing urologic services to patients for over 28 years. He is the Chief of Urology at the Summit Campus of Alta Bates Summit Medical Center in Oakland. He is Board Certified in Adult and Pediatric Urology and is a member of the American Urological Association. He also served as a board member of the Bay Area Tumor Institute for eight years.
Dr. Yan’s practice encompasses all facets of urology. He evaluates and manages a variety of urinary and sexual problems including kidney stones, urinary incontinence, erectile dysfunction, and various urological cancers. He treats both men and women.
Dr. Yan performs a variety of minimally invasive and open urologic surgical procedures. He performs surgeries for urologic cancers, reconstructive surgeries, endoscopic surgeries for benign prostate conditions, treatment for kidney and ureteral stones, and corrective surgeries for urinary incontinence and erectile problems. He performs endoscopic evaluations of the bladder, prostate evaluations and biopsies with ultrasound, vasectomy, and other minor urological excisional surgeries in his office under local anesthesia.
Dr. Yan actively listens to his patients, educating and discussing with them all urological problems that are of concern to them. He believes in giving patients treatment options while empowering them to participate in decisions about their own health care. He believes that optimal patient care is provided through a partnership between physician and patient built on good communication. He strives to provide excellent care while encouraging patients to take an active role in their own health and well-being.
