Daniel T. Oberlin, MD, is a board-certified, fellowship-trained urologic oncologist and robotic surgeon specializing in the minimally invasive treatments. He has particular expertise in advanced robotic surgery and the comprehensive management of complex urologic cancers. Dr. Oberlin is a nationally recognized, high-volume robotic surgeon who ranks among the top 5% of urologic surgeons in the United States by robotic surgical volume. He has extensive experience treating patients with large tumors, locally advanced cancers, prior abdominal surgery, complex anatomy, and other factors that can make surgery particularly challenging.
His surgical program serves as an observation site for visiting surgeons seeking advanced training in complex robotic urologic surgery. He also serves on the professional education faculty for Johnson & Johnson, providing surgeon education in urologic oncology and minimally invasive surgery, and advises Intuitive Surgical on robotic surgery and clinical program development.
Dr. Oberlin graduated from Dartmouth College, completed his urologic surgery residency at Northwestern University, and received advanced fellowship training in urologic oncology and robotic surgery at the University of Southern California under internationally recognized leaders in minimally invasive urologic surgery.
Dr. Oberlin has authored more than 50 peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, and scientific presentations. His work has appeared in leading medical journals, including The Journal of Urology, European Urology, Clinical Cancer Research, Mayo Clinic Proceedings, Urologic Oncology, and Radiographics. He has also served as a peer reviewer for several major urologic journals.
In addition to his surgical practice, Dr. Oberlin participates in clinical research and advises medical technology companies involved in robotic surgery, cancer treatment, diagnostic testing, and minimally invasive therapies. This work keeps him closely involved in the evaluation and development of emerging technologies that may improve outcomes for patients with urologic disease.
Dr. Oberlin believes that excellent care begins with a clear understanding of each patient’s diagnosis, priorities, and treatment options. He takes time to explain complex medical information and helps patients weigh the potential benefits and risks of surgery, radiation, systemic therapy, active surveillance, and other approaches. His goal is to combine advanced surgical expertise with thoughtful, individualized care focused on long-term health and quality of life.
