CAMBRIDGE, Mass. & LOS ANGELES–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Iterative Health, a healthcare technology and services company partnering with physicians to advance gastrointestinal care, today announced that Unio Specialty Care, a rapidly growing physician practice and services platform, has partnered to deploy Iterative Health’s SKOUT AI technology at surgery centers across California to enhance colonoscopies for colorectal cancer screening.
“Adopting SKOUT marks a key advancement in Unio’s commitment to innovation, quality improvement, and value-based care”
With over 150,000 new cases of colorectal cancer diagnosed annually in the U.S.—nearly 11% of them in California—colorectal cancer remains the second deadliest cancer in the country. For Unio’s patients undergoing a screening colonoscopy, SKOUT’s computer-vision technology is enhancing the detection of problem areas in real time.
“Adopting SKOUT marks a key advancement in Unio’s commitment to innovation, quality improvement, and value-based care,” said Dr. Edward Cohen, President of Unio. “We understand that preparing for and undergoing a colonoscopy is a significant step for patients. Adding Iterative Health’s SKOUT AI technology to our centers reinforces our dedication to making colorectal cancer screenings as effective as possible for our patients.”
With nearly 50% of physicians today facing burnout, SKOUT serves an important role for healthcare providers, offering an unobtrusive extra set of eyes fine-tuned to detect the most challenging abnormalities during a traditional colonoscopy—sessile polyps. Physicians often perform over ten colonoscopies per day. SKOUT is a valuable tool that supports consistently high-quality procedures from morning to afternoon, enhancing patient care and potentially helping physicians finish their day feeling less fatigued.
“Our collaboration with Unio reflects a shared commitment to innovating colorectal cancer screening technology with patients and physicians in mind,” said Jonathan Ng, Founder and CEO at Iterative Health. “Physicians are seeking AI technology that elevates the standard of patient care while improving their day-to-day workflow. We optimized SKOUT to reduce distractions and maximize the detection of clinically significant lesions, including elusive sessile polyps. We aim to minimize the ‘false alerts’ many physicians have reported as distracting with other currently available technologies.”
SKOUT now features a ~40%* increase in sensitivity for clinically significant polyps, nearly doubled detection speed, and enhanced training for sessile polyp recognition. Unio stands out as the first group in California to introduce Iterative Health’s latest SKOUT technology across multiple locations statewide.
