LOCATIONS:

Dr. Sepi Mahooti serves as Vice President and Medical Director of Laboratory Operations at Unio Specialty Care, and is board-certified in anatomic, clinical, and cytopathology. Her career has spanned both clinical practice and research, pursuing better understanding of disease that bridges the “bench and the bedside” for continual improvement of patient outcomes.

She completed her Cytopathology Fellowship at Yale University and her Anatomic and Clinical Pathology Training at The Ohio State University, where she also served as Associate Research Scientist in the Laboratory of Tumor Invasion, Metastases, and High Throughput Tissue Profiling. She received the Papanicolaou Society for Cytopathology Research Award in 2009. Dr. Mahooti was a Faculty Member at the University of California San Diego for 12 years as Full Professor in the Health Sciences Series, serving as Director of Cytology and Fine Needle Aspiration Service at the Department of Veterans Affairs La Jolla, Principal Investigator on numerous research projects, and a member of the UCSD School of Medicine Curriculum Committee for three years.

Treatment Philosophy

Care begins with understanding, and understanding begins with a patient story that remains clear, connected, and true over time.

In practice, much of medicine unfolds within the diagnostic layer-where laboratory data, imaging, and clinical findings must come together in a way that accurately reflects the patient. My work has focused on ensuring that this information is not only correct, but coherent, so that what is known about a patient can be trusted at the point of decision.

As medicine grows more complex, the challenge is rarely a lack of data. It is maintaining clarity. By bringing together molecular, anatomic, and clinical information into a unified view, I work to reduce cognitive burden, support clinical judgment, and help ensure that care remains aligned across disciplines.

When the story is clear, decisions improve. When decisions improve, care becomes more coordinated, more precise, and more human.
